Trek from the Zat to the Ourika Valley by the Yagour Plateau

4 Days trek, Period: Spring / Summer / Autumn, Level: Easy to Moderate              , Assistance:       

Far from the big trek routes, we invite you to discover a beautiful region.  Under the watchful eye of  the mount Meldsen 3596m, we will discover a rich  pre-history and a traditional way of life that stayed  unchanged for centuries.  Our tour, progressing in beautiful landscapes, takes us the Zat Valley with its   bee hive like villages before we join the Yagour plateau where we can admire  some amazing 4000  years old carved rocks.   
Day1.  Marrakech - Ihlouan / 1h30 road transfer/ 3h00 walk/ Altitude, gain: 600m; loss: 100m At your hotel, you will be met by your guide and drive south towards the Atlas Mountains and the lush Zat  Valley.  We meet our muleteers and start our walk to the mineral springs that attracts many Moroccan visitor.  The path climbs gently on a sandstone rocky surface. The Berber villages here are of amazing beauty and  they fit harmoniously with the surrounding environment.  We reach our first camp near the village of Ihlouan  at 1870m  with a panoramic view on the valley we climbed, (B, L, D).  Day2. Ihlouan - Timlilt / 5h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 800m; loss: 400m This morning will have our most challenging climb on the ridge of the Djebel Yagour. From the pass, you will  enjoy the fantastic views of the first Atlas High peaks and the green Yagour Plateau. In this area, villagers  from the valleys around perpetuate a secular  transhumance tradition. Each year they bring up their herds to  graze from July and leave the high plateaus at the first snow falls. Today you will have walked one of these  routes and camp on the foothill of the imposing Mont Meldsen (3695m), our camp is pitched in a lovely spot  at 2200m high, (B, L, D).   Day3.  Timlilt  / 4h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 300m; loss: 350m Today is a cool walking day, we are going to follow the red sandstone gorges of oued Timlilt. At the Azib  Adarnan, you will discover one the most amazing prehistoric sites of the high Atlas! On sandstone slabs,  prehistoric Lybico Berbers left some superb carved rocks representing: Humans, animals from sub Sahara,  weapons ...  Our walk carries on between lush terraces and a beautiful "forest" of old juniper trees. Our loop  end at the same camp near the stream of Timlilt, (B, L, D).  Day4.  Timlilt - Ourika - Marrakech / 5h30 trekking / Altitude, gain: 300m; loss: 1200m After breakfast, we head towards the western slopes of the Yagour. You will overhang  the beautiful Ourika  Valley, surrounded by the Atlas "Giant" peaks. The path follows a crest with an amazing double side view  before it links the village of Wigrane and Imi n'Taddert where our amazing trek ends. After farewell to our  muleteer team, we meet our minibus for a 1h30 transfer along the Ourika valley towards Marrakech.  We will  reach your hotel at the end of the day, (B, L), (end of our services).
