South North Traverse of the Eastern Anti-Atlas.

9 Days, 6 Days trek, Period: Autumn to Spring, Level: Moderate

  Assistance:

This trip in the deep south of Morocco will take us to the eastern part of the Anti-Atlas range, and the  magnificent Saghro Mountains. Surrounded by the African plaque pushing from the south, and the  imposing high Atlas barrier up north, this range offers a stunning variety of landscapes. In the heart of  the territory of the semi nomadic Ait Atta tribe, our short trek will lead us through deep wadies, lunar  plateaus and pitons forests. In a world submerged by warm lights, the breeze from the south  announces the desert close…
Day1. Ouarzazate Arrival to Ouarzazate Airport, where you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in the  city. Overnight in 3* hotel on half board basis.  Day2. Ouarzazate - Nkob - Berkik / 3h30 transfer / 3h30 trek Departure in minibus to cross the Anti Atlas Range and the join the magnificent Draa Valley. At Tansikht, we  drive east on the southern slopes of the Djebel Saghro toward Nkob. We leave the paved road and drive south  toward the oases of Handour where we meet our muleteer team. After a picnic lunch, our trek starts. From  here the trail leads north up the fertile Hanedour Valley to Berkik.  The cliff faces and ridges of the valley  are home to a wide array of birds including buzzards and hawks. This is a relatively lush area of the Saghro  and we pass a number of small plots of terraced cultivation, well irrigated by the snow-melt water that  generally flows until the end of May, first camp at Berkik.  Day3. Berkik - Berkou / 6h00 trek This morning we will climb the Djebel Tifdassine to overhang the amazing tabular rock formation of "Tin  Oayour".  We then continue into the heart of the massif and move away from settled areas into nomad  country of the Ait Atta (which dominated Morocco south of the Atlas from the 16th to the early 20th Century) and walk down the superb gorges of Ighissi. In the afternoon, we will follow a side path overlooking the  valley till our camp at Berkou.  Day4. Berkou - Bab n'Ali / 6h00 trek Today, we will climb the "Ougnat Pass" we approach one of the great landmarks of the Saghro, the Tizi  N'Taggourt - hundreds of rock spires rise from the widely eroded plateau to form a 'petrified forest' and a  truly extraordinary spectacle.  After passing the great rock gates which guard the southern edge of the Tizi  N'Taggourt, the trail traverses this volcanic chaos, with panoramic views of the Saghro and northern Sahara,  to a penultimate campsite in a tiny oasis beneath the huge towers of Bab'Nali.  Day5. Bab n'Ali - Igli / 4h30 trek We retrace our steps back through the gates of Bab n'Ali and head north towards the pretty valley of Igli and  the amazing rock formation of "Ikhf n'Oulghoum" (the camels head), camp near Igli.   Day6. Igli - Imi n'Ouareg / 6h00 trekking Today we follow the canyons of "Akka Akhmassi" and climb the Mount "Kwawech" at 2660m.
